O & O & Partitionation Particione Profession in version 3

The O & O software, supplier of numerous hard drive products such as O & or Defrag, has published the Professional O & or Partition Manager in version 3, which is now not only available for desktop systems but also for server systems. We briefly introduce the product.

Management of data agencies vs. special solution

The management of the Windows data carrier offers various options in relation to the management of rigid partitions and discs. From Windows XP, the management of the data vector has also experienced functions to expand and reduce volumes and is sufficient for most of the application areas.

However, the management of the data vector also reaches its limits and, for example, cannot convert a primary partition into a logical unit or move partitions inside the hard drive (assumed enough space). There is also no expected elimination of partitions (overwriting with «0»).

For these and other activities there are special solutions such as the one for private users (in the 32 -bit version) Master Home Edition, the Open Legs GPARTED or commercial tools such as the Paragon Partition Manager or partition management O & O.

Features and design

The O & O & or Partition manager is based on the appearance of the management of the data carrier, combined with the typical view of Explorer for activities and details. The actual occupation with a status bar is displayed under the partitions

The functions of O & or Partition Manager include:

• Enlarge, reduce, move partitions
• Convert primary partitions to logical partitions, converts the basic carrier in dynamic data carriers
• View the properties of physical data carriers including intelligent values
• Support of all types of drive under Windows, including basic and dynamic data operators, each in MBR or GPT format
• Safe elimination partitions
• An initial CD based on Windows Pre and Evironment (PE) for modifying the system partition
• Version for the server operating systems that can also change mirrors and raid-5 volumes

Unfortunately, in addition to the perspective, the developers have also taken on the operation of the management of the data carrier. So you cannot – as usual in many other products – change the size and position of the partitions directly in the view, but depend on mental arithmetic

This can still be sufficient to enlarge or reduce a volum. When moving a partition, the «start of the partition» field should be added to memory not tried by the end of the hard drive from the illustration to obtain the partition with the data directly until the end of the hard drive without size. According to the manufacturer, Defrag technology is internally used when reducing partitions in order to unlock the files.

The function for the secure cancellation of the partitions offers different variants with which the partition can be overwritten before the cancellation

At least the last variant was also possible from Windows Vista with the normal formatting of partitions (or via the command line).

The area of ​​the software is surprisingly clear for the required price. So there is no restoration function for lost partitions, no copying function for partitions, no editor for the start -up charger from Windows Vista/Windows 7 and no function to unite the partitions. Most of the functions listed, for example, already offer the free Master Home Edition (32 -bit version).

In addition to the vulnerabilities in the operation (see above), another problem is that the actions are performed directly instead of this, as usual, with other programs to be saved first in a tail and then work through a boot button after clicking.

Conclusion

The added value of the software remains very limited compared to the management of the Windows data carrier in addition to Windows systems, since other file system except Fat and NTF are not supported. Ultimately, the user usually guides better with the Live Open-de-e-Eplod Gagic CD for special activities with the GPARTED OPENSOURCE solution and can save the output. In any case, the great shot was not successful with the partition manager in version 3.
