Threats from the Internet have long since become everyday and dangerous malware always finds new ways to pry them up the security mechanisms of your computer. A reliable virus protection program is therefore essential. The Internet security of the English software company Bullguard equips up to 10 devices with a powerful antivirus tool and also offers a whole series of other features with which you can keep malware and cybergear from your private data. In our Bullguard test you will learn what else the Internet Security 2020 can do and what speaks for or against a purchase.
Yes, the Bullguard Internet Security package for Windows and Mac also includes a mobile version for iOS and Android that has the same range of functions as the desktop app.
There is an official trial version with which you can put the program through its paces for 30 days. In addition, antivirus and spam filter can be used for 7 days free of charge and without registration.
Bullguard offers an integrated backup function with which you can create fuses via cloud or on physical media (e.g. USB sticks or network storage).
1. Installation and setup: User account obligatory
The installation of the Bullguard Antiviren program takes a little more time than is used to it from other tools. Since Bullguard requires a subscription, you have to open a user account at the manufacturer after installation in order to complete the activation.
Good to know: After the first start of the program, you have 7 days to set up a user account. If the account is not set up within this grace period or the user logged in, Bullguard is deactivated. Also note that only the antivirus and spam filter modules work within the period of grace.
The setting of the account itself only takes a few minutes. The window for the account device is displayed at the first start of the program. Enter a username (a valid email address) and a password. Afterwards, Bullguard is already ready for use.
After successful activation, Bullguard automatically starts an update of the virus database and later carries out regular updates. If necessary, you can also initiate the process manually at any time.
2. Bullguard test: The most important functions of the Internet security at a glance
2.1. Virus protection
The system scanner ensures basic security at Bullguard. This searches her hard drive for pests and unwanted intruders and immediately warns them in the event of a suspicious find. Viruses, Trojans and other painting or spyware sends the tool directly into a quarantine folder, from where they can no longer do any damage. Bullguard Antivirus combines signature -based detection with a behavioral analysis and thus ensures multi -layered protection.

In addition to the antivirus program, Internet Security offers many other practical features:
2.2. Firewall-Schutz
The Bullguard Firewall works like a separate system and continues on request even if the main application has been stopped. It also has a so -called “intrusion detection system”, which according to the manufacturer was developed especially to prevent the penetration of malware from the Internet.

The Bullguard Firewall accesses a list of «known applications» that is continuously updated. The most commonly used programs are listed there together with their security features. You can use this list to determine which of them are trustworthy and which you want to allow automatic access to the Internet. The firewall can also be adapted to almost every network type using the extended safety settings.
2.3. Bullguard in the test: backup
The Bullguard Internet Security also offers integrated backup functionality, with the help of which you can create backups via cloud (including Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive) or on physical media such as USB sticks, external hard drives or network storage. You can assign a dedicated backup to each goal via special user profiles. In addition, of course, there is also the possibility at any time to initiate the safety process manually.
2.4. PC TuneUp
With PC TuneUp, Bullguard Internet Security contains another practical addition that helps you always keep your computer in an excellent operating status. It supports you in the search for elements that slow down your system (e.g. temporary files or unnecessary applications) and performs useful actions (such as defragmenting Windows registry or cleaning up the browser cache).
Good to know: If necessary, the adjustment processes can be saved for future scans, so you do not have to re-label the files at every start from Bullguard.

In our test, too, the tool has become more than forking: Over 800 MB were proposed for deletion at our Acer Nitro.
2.5. Childproof
Child protection in Bullguard is a great thing for parents who want to prevent the offspring from getting in contact with those who are surfing or fraudulent. On the one hand, the tool imports all user accounts from the operating system, which means that protection at the user level can immediately apply.

In addition, you also have the choice of several preconfigured, age-dependent filters and can create black and whitelists. It is also possible to restore internet access to certain periods. For example, a lock prevents secret surfing at times that are not permitted.
Last but not least, the child lock also marks all chat programs that you should block. You can also add programs manually if they do not appear in the list.
3. BullGuard im Test: Performance
In our test on an Acer Nitro 5, we could not find any significant loss of speed. The antivirus software acted completely unnoticed in the background and also did not lead to any significant delays when starting up or starting other applications (e.g. the Microsoft Office programs or the Chrome browser).
The Bullguard scanner also did its job without affecting the performance of our notebook too badly. However, it looks a little different with a complete hard disk search: this used a whopping 50 percent of the available CPU performance.
Good to know: Bullguard Internet Security also has a Game Booster with which smooth gaming is possible without jerking and delays. For this, the function optimizes the processor performance and also blocks popups.

4. Support
Unfortunately, Bullguard does not offer a support by telephone, but the support team can be reached around the clock via the chat or email.
We made an inquiry by email for our test and received an answer within three hours with which we were able to completely solve our problem.
5. Prices and availability
The prices at Bullguard are calculated according to the industry-customary subscription model. The Internet Security package for up to 3 devices currently costs just under 30 euros per year.
If that's not enough, you can upgrade to Bullguard Premium Protection for just under 50 euros a year. This contains additional features, such as the home network scanner and all-encompassing identity protection, and can be used on up to 15 devices at the same time.
Bullguard VPN costs again in all tariffs. The prices here are currently around 3 euros a month.
Too expensive? Then the Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition may be the right thing for you. You can also find even more free antivirus alternatives in this article.
6. Conclusion of our Bullguard Test: One of the best virus scanners for private users
In the private sector, Bullguard Internet Security is one of the best available security packages in our opinion. In our test, the software was primarily able to score with its excellent performance and a variety of practical and everyday functions, such as child protection.
Only the bad translation in the German version used for our test clouds the overall very positive overall picture. However, one or the other manufacturer can cut a slice of the excellent support of one or the other manufacturer.
