The smartphone as a constant partner is the ideal place to organize our appointments. Most cell phones have therefore already pre -installed a calendar app. But this does not always satisfy its purpose. We present several alternatives for Android and iPhone.

1. A calendar app offers many advantages

A pen and a notebook are completely enough when it comes to writing an appointment, but stops. Digital calendars can offer much more. In addition, most people nowadays always have their smartphone at hand, so it makes sense to organize appointments in a calendar app.

The advantages of a calendar app are therefore clearly evident: You no longer need a separate program that you always have to take with you. In addition, digital alternatives offer numerous practical functions such as memories, different signs or automatic synchronization with other devices.

2. Before download: what functions does a calendar app need?

Before getting a calendar app, you should obviously think about which extra you need. There are free and paid organizers, calendars for special occasions, for families, with simple functions or many extras. The design also plays an important role: if you don’t like how the appointments are displayed in the app, even the best functions bring nothing. It is therefore possible to set different opinions for many suppliers.

You have to find out which app is the best for you. It is often advisable to make a selection of several organizers and test them and compare them first.

2.1. The topic of data protection

If you use a calendar app, you should also be aware that it has access to numerous personal data. Some apps only store data on the smartphone, but in most cases they end up on an external server. This has the advantage that you can also create and modify appointments on other devices or, for example, it can automatically synchronize the activities from your email account with the app. The transfer of appointments to a new smartphone is also not a problem at all.

However, the disadvantage is that the provider also has access to your data. Especially with free offers, it may certainly happen that the information is resold to third parties to view personalized advertising. However, there are also suppliers with good data protection for those who appreciate what happens to their data.

3. The flagships: Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook

However, most people have an account with Google and Android users. Outlook is also used both privately and business by many people. In this regard, these two apps are not suggestions for insider, but they should not be mentioned because of the frequency. The practical thing of both calendars is, of course, which are very easy to use both for the private and commercial sector.

The advantage of Google’s calendar is that most people already have an account anyway. So you just have to access and you can use the calendar directly. The calendar is clearly designed, synchronization works in an excellent way and the dates can be easily added. Even the link with the account and -mail is practical, so the appointments are automatically included in the calendar.

3.1. Outlook as part of the Office package

The Outlook app mainly serves as a mobile addition if you already use Outlook on the PC. So you always have yours and -mail and appointments in sight and you can update yourself from anywhere. You can also create lists of things to do and open and edit Excel, Word or PowerPoint files. However, a paid subscription is needed for this. If you already have this, the app is very useful.

4. Practical alternatives for Android and iPhone

Crusader platform offers are mainly among large suppliers. However, many smaller alternatives are available only for one of the two operating systems. Acalendar and business calendar 2 for Android and Fantastical 2 for iPhone are particularly popular here.

4.1. Acalendar – The right view for everyone

The acalendar app for Android is particularly praised for the numerous practical vision formats. You can choose between weeks, month and daily view. The items are displayed entirely with all the necessary details or only in a close preview. You can also change the color for several appointments such as birthdays, commercial activities and private events. It is not the most beautiful app in terms of design, it is available as a free variant (with advertising), but can be expanded in a paid version with additional functions.

4.2. Company calendar 2-calendar app for individualists

If you are looking for a particularly high number of practical functions, business calendar 2 for Android is probably the right thing for you: With extras such as meteorological forecasts, different travel and widget times, the calendar can be adapted individually to your needs. It is also particularly practical that you can structure the appointments in a different way and order according to the priorities. However, much is included only in the Pro version, but the app is also limited free of charge with advertising.

4.3. Fantastic 2 – Effective with vocal input

The Fantastical 2 app for iPhone offers everything you need for a calendar: different views for days, weeks or birthdays, memories and easy additions of new appointments. Above all, the calendar convinces in a function: the entry into practice of appointments and tasks. Especially when I travel a lot, the boring domita is often annoying. With the app it is possible to easily insert appointments by language and a item is automatically generated for you. With a price of € 5.49, Fantastical 2 is not necessarily a real deal.

5. Calendar app for couples, families and friends

Many people want a calendar that they can use with others. Of course, this is obviously a very practical option for couples or families: You just have to add an appointment and this is automatically synchronized with everything you want to share the item.

5.1. Looping – All -Round with data protection

Looping was specially designed for an application in groups of all kinds. Whether it’s family, friends or music clubs, you can create any number of groups and easily invite participants. The design is clear and the handling is intuitive. In addition to the appointments, they can also be created and shared lists of things to do and shopping. A special advantage is also that it is a German supplier with server in Germany. All data are encrypted here and are subject to German data protection laws. The app is available for free for Android and iOS, but registration with Facebook or -mail is required.

5.2. Famanice-The Family Calendar App

A calendar especially for families: with Famanice for Android and iPhone, they simply organize the appointments of all family members. Numerous functions make this app a large helper with a chat function, push messages and lists of things to do. Unfortunately, the app is a bit old and is described as something overloaded, especially for children. Most of the functions are also available in the Pro version, which costs many € 29.99 per year.

5.3. Timetree – intended for couples and friends

In Timetree, the attention is focused on communication and on the passage of time together. Private, commercial and social events can therefore be easily organized and share with others. The design is modern and the operation is not complicated. Different colors and a communication field for comments make the organization of appointments and homework very simple. You can easily invite contacts via Facebook, WhatsApp or SMS. There is also an integrated chat. The app is available for free with registration for Android and iPhone. However, there are advertising.
