How to choose the power supply

Power supply – Device that changes energy for particular needs. First, we will look into it after the requirements have been decided for the computer.

The right choice of power supply – the highest power needed for the parts of the computer, which is measured in power units called Watts (W).

10-15 years ago, for the proper functioning of the computer, 200 watts were enough, and now this number has grown because of new parts that use more energy.

For instance, the Sapphire HD 6990 graphics card can use up to 450 Watts. In other words, to select the power supply, you need to know how much energy the parts will use.

Shows an example, how to choose power (ATX):

  • Processor – 130 W
  • Motherboard – 40 W
  • RAM – 10 W, 2 BUC
  • HDD – 40 W, 2 BUC
  • Video – 300 W
  • CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-20 W
  • Cooling fans – 2 W, 5 pieces

We have a list of components and their power requirements, to calculate the power of the power supply we must collect the power of all components and+20% for the reserve, that is 130+40+(20)+(80)+300+20+(10) = 600. Therefore, the total energy of the components is 600 watt+20% (120 W) = 720 watts, which is not recommended for this computer. 720 Watt.

Ok! The power of energy that we have analyzed, now let’s move on to quality: because it does not mean quality. Today on the market there are a large number of food sources, from «no name» cheap to famous brands. A good power source can be found among the cheap: good quality can be found everywhere and how to find out without opening the box, it is a difficult question.

However, I will give some suggestions to choose the correct feeding source: quality feeding weighs more than 1 kg. Pay attention to the sign of wiring (as in the image), if written 18 AWG – it is the norm, if 16 AWG – it is very good, if 20 AWG – are cables of poor quality.

If you don’t want to risk, choose the feeding of known companies. Below: the list of recognized brands:

  • Zalman
  • Theme
  • Corsair
  • Hyper
  • FSP
  • Delta Power

There is another criterion: the size of the nutrition, which depends on the housing, in which it will be mounted. Usually all power sources have atx standard (as in the photo), but there are sources that do not have this standard.

Conclusion

Clean Master, widely known among Android users, has built a reputation as an effective tool for optimizing mobile devices by cleaning temporary files, cache, and unwanted background processes. Its success on smartphones has now inspired Clean Master for PC, offering similar functionality for desktop and laptop computers. This program is designed to enhance system performance, free up storage space, and improve overall responsiveness by removing unnecessary files and managing resource-hungry processes.

Using Clean Master on a computer allows users to maintain system efficiency without manually searching for temporary files or hunting down background applications that slow down performance. By automating these cleanup tasks, it provides a convenient solution for both casual users and those who want to keep their systems running smoothly over time. The software also often includes additional features, such as startup management and system monitoring, which help optimize resource usage and reduce the chances of system crashes or slowdowns.

While Windows includes some built-in maintenance tools, programs like Clean Master for PC offer a more user-friendly interface and broader functionality, making optimization tasks simpler and faster. For users familiar with the mobile version, the transition to the desktop tool is intuitive, providing a seamless experience across devices.

In conclusion, Clean Master for PC represents a practical solution for users seeking easy and effective system optimization. By removing temporary files, clearing caches, and managing memory-intensive processes, it helps maintain a faster and more efficient computer. For those who value performance, organization, and convenience, this tool brings the well-known benefits of mobile optimization to the desktop environment, ensuring a smoother and more responsive computing experience.

Choosing the right power supply is one of the most important decisions when building or upgrading a computer. While processors, graphics cards, and storage devices often receive the most attention, the power supply is responsible for delivering stable and reliable energy to every component in the system. Selecting an inadequate unit can lead to instability, reduced performance, unexpected shutdowns, or even hardware damage.

The first step is calculating the total power consumption of your computer. Modern components, particularly high-end graphics cards and powerful processors, require significantly more energy than systems built a decade ago. Understanding the power requirements of each component allows you to choose a power supply that can comfortably handle the system’s maximum load while leaving additional capacity for future upgrades.

However, wattage alone should not determine your decision. Build quality, efficiency, and reliability are equally important. Choosing a power supply with an 80 PLUS certification ensures better energy efficiency, lower electricity consumption, and reduced heat generation. Reputable manufacturers also provide higher-quality internal components that improve long-term stability and extend the lifespan of the entire system.

It is also wise to avoid selecting a power supply that operates continuously near its maximum capacity. Leaving a reasonable power margin improves efficiency, reduces fan noise, and allows the system to handle temporary power spikes during demanding workloads such as gaming, video editing, or 3D rendering.

In addition, users should consider practical features such as modular cables, sufficient PCIe power connectors for graphics cards, and compatibility with future hardware upgrades. Investing in a quality power supply today can make future component replacements much easier without requiring another PSU upgrade.

Ultimately, the power supply is the foundation of every reliable computer. By carefully evaluating your system’s power requirements, choosing a trusted manufacturer, and selecting a unit with adequate capacity and efficiency, you can ensure stable performance, protect valuable hardware, and create a system that remains dependable for years to come. A high-quality power supply is not just another component—it’s an investment in the long-term health and performance of your entire PC.
